Fast approaching is the Let Us Never Forget Scholarships annual April 9th fundraiser. Every year seems to be better than the last and the 2011 affair should hold true to that tradition. The event honors the local heroes who have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan. Proceeds of the evening are used to provide scholarships in the names of our local honored soldiers and in the memory of a soldier from each of our fifty states. Our theme this year is "Angels Among Us". It is true, so true.
The evening is expected to be one of inspiration, entertainment, good food and good people. What will give the affair a twist this year? A horse.
Reservations for the event are still available, but places are going fast and the pace is expected to pick up when it is formally announced that Charlie Daniels has donated a horse for our live auction. "Ira Hayes", named after one of the soldiers who helped raise our flag on Iwo Jima in WWII, is a registered American Paint Horse gelding. Mr. Daniels has been a strong supporter of the scholarship fund in remembrance of Marine Lance Cpl. Billy Spencer who fell in Iraq in 2006.
Fishermen and hunters will be interested in the Total Sportsman's Package donated by the Bass Pro Shops. The package includes a guided fishing trip with Kevin Izzi, a guided turkey hunt with Carl Drake & Allan Wright and a guided three-day whitetail hunt with Gene Price. This package includes lots of extras and is valued at $8,000.
And if you are looking for a get away, a trip to Saratoga Springs, New York will be up for bids. Stay two nights in the Mariott, dine at Scallions Restaurant (4 Star), visit the Automobile Museum and shop with the $100 given as part of the package. All of this and more will be offered at our live auction, hosted by Anthony Munoz and R.G. Vilardo. Our silent auction is shaping up nicely too with donations from local businesses, restaurants and "Angels".
Please join us at the Oasis Conference Center in Loveland, OH. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so you have ample to time to browse the silent auction items. The program will start at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by James Rogers, a singer/songwriter appearing at Dollywood, Conley White, who will debut a special song written for the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, Steve Haber and dancing with Waterman Entertainment. For information/reservations contact June Izzi-Bailey at (513) 831-1651.
